About Mike

Mike Elliott has been serving the Union community through banking since 1978, bringing over four decades of experience to his role as President and CEO of United Bank of Union. He has extensive expertise in commercial and real estate lending, residential construction, development, and business growth. Mike is dedicated to helping individuals, families, and local businesses succeed, fostering a culture at UBU where customers are treated with care and compassion. His background as a teacher and coach shapes his approach, emphasizing personal growth, continuous learning, and meaningful connections with clients. 

Education & Career

Mike began his professional journey as a high school teacher and coach at Richmond High School before transitioning to banking in 1978. He completed the American Bankers Association's management training program in 1979, covering commercial and consumer lending, real estate, compliance, human resources, and bank financial accounting. He continued advanced business studies at Warrensburg in 1981 and graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1983. Mike was named Outstanding Alumnus of the Year in 1990 for Culver-Stockton College.

Mike's banking career progressed rapidly: he was promoted to President of the American Bank in Union in 1987 and, following the sale of the American Bank group, joined United Bank of Union in 1992 as Senior Vice President in Retail and Mortgage Banking. In 2000, he was named Chief Operating Officer and appointed to the Bank's Board of Directors. In 2002, he assumed the roles of President and CEO of UBU. In recognition of his leadership and long-standing commitment to the Bank, he was named Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2026, continuing to guide UBU with a focus on strategic growth, staff development, and strengthening its role as a cornerstone of the Union community.

Community Involvement

A longtime resident of Union, Mike has devoted decades to enriching his community through leadership, volunteer service, and support for local education and youth programs. He has been recognized for his service with the community's Distinguished Service Award and has held leadership and membership roles in several organizations, including:

Mike has also coached countless youth sports teams and together with his family supported school booster clubs, community events, and charitable initiatives across Franklin County.

Through his leadership at United Bank of Union, Mike actively encourages employee involvement in community programs, ensuring the bank remains a trusted partner in Union's growth and well-being. Mike credits much of his success to his wife, Lynne, whose dedication to family and faith has inspired their three children to serve their communities.
